Medical

The University of West Alabama offers Health and Dental Insurance through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. Employees are eligible for coverage beginning with the first day of employment. Termination of benefits depends on the last day of employment. 

  • If you enroll in the single health plan, there is no cost to the employee. 
  • If you enroll in the single dental plan, there is no cost to the employee.
  • If you enroll in the family health plan, the cost is $64.74 a month.
  • If you enroll in the family dental plan, the cost is $42.05 a month.
  • The family rate remains the same no matter the number of dependents.

Teladoc revive

UWA provides its employees with the option to enroll in a Teladoc service through revive. This is a service that gives you access to a live doctor over the phone that can assist you with your medical needs.

The cost is $4.50 per month no matter how many dependents you have. There is no co-pay for this service.

Cobra

COBRA gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances.  This includes voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce, and other life events.  Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium for coverage up to 102% of the cost to the plan.

Flexible Spending Accounts

As an employee of UWA, you have the option to enroll in a Flexible Spending Plan through TASC. When you choose to participate, money is deducted from your pre-taxed income and kept in your TASC account to be used for certain medical, dental, and vision expenses as well as qualified dependent/child care expenses. When you incur a qualified medical expense, you will be able to pay with your TASC Visa Reimbursement Card or submit the expense through the TASC online portal. Please remember to save all of your receipts as you will need them for reimbursement validation purposes.
