UWA Theatre and Sumter Theatre Workshop are partnering to present “Urinetown, the Musical” for three nights March 11-13, at 7:30 p.m. at UWA’s Bibb Graves Auditorium. Admission is free for UWA students, faculty, and staff, and general admission is $10.
The satirical comedy musical debuted in 2001 off-Broadway, and in its nearly 20 years has received much acclaim, a successful Broadway run, and Tony Awards for both the script and the music.
The musical’s creator, Greg Kotis, calls it a dark, allegorical story, with humor woven throughout to explore a fictitious society’s flaws, from politics, overpopulation, social irresponsibility, and more. Kotis says the production leaves theatre-goers humming and laughing, but also engaged in a way that makes them smarter.
