The University of West Alabama (UWA) and Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create a streamlined transfer pathway for students pursuing careers in environmental science and conservation.
Under the new agreement, students completing SRTC’s Land, Forest, and Wildlife Management program will be able to transfer directly into UWA’s environmental science and conservation programs. The collaboration offers students flexibility, allowing them to continue their studies at UWA, whether on campus or through UWA Online, while building on the knowledge and skills gained at SRTC.
A key component of this partnership is the provision of comprehensive advising services from both institutions. These services will guide students on course selection, academic progress, and career development, ensuring a smooth transition between the institutions and positioning students for success in their chosen field.
“This MOU is a prime example of how collaboration can strengthen higher education,” said Dr. Jeffery Merida, dean of UWA’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. “By working together, we’re not only simplifying the transfer process but also contributing to the advancement of environmental studies. This partnership is a win-win for our students, faculty, and the future of conservation.”
Graduates of the program will be well-equipped for a variety of career paths in land management, wildlife conservation, and environmental science. The agreement is particularly beneficial for SRTC students looking to pursue advanced education in natural resource management, opening doors to expanded professional opportunities.
