The last day of the year 2024 will mark the end of a chapter for the University of West Alabama, and it will mark the end of an era for outgoing President Ken Tucker. Having led the University for the past 10 years, Tucker will be retired on January 1, 2025, leaving a legacy of unprecedented growth and development.
The University of West Alabama has joined with AT&T to announce the second annual Alabama Summit on Rural Technology, set for April 12 on the UWA campus in Livingston, with Governor Kay Ivey delivering the keynote address. The event features a broad slate of experts who bring unique perspectives to address rural Alabama’s need for an enhanced technology infrastructure.
Former University of West Alabama President Dr. John E. Deloney died Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the age of 96.
The University of West Alabama’s International Programs will host its annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Bell Conference Center on campus, beginning at 6 p.m.

The University of West Alabama has been recognized with high marks in a national review conducted by University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center. The study included 506 public, non-specialty four-year colleges and universities across the nation with a focus on the opportunities provided for minority students to be successful in higher education.

The University of West Alabama has announced more than 500 outstanding undergraduate students named to the President’s List and the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 academic semester. The President’s List gives recognition to undergraduate students with exceptionally high grades for the semester, those with grade-point averages of 3.80 or higher on at least twelve semester hours credit with no grade lower than a “C.”

Livingston State Farm agent Cody Mordecai has funded a new scholarship opportunity for University of West Alabama first generation students from Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Pickens or Choctaw counties through The FLi Society, a student organization established to raise the profile of the first-generation population at UWA and offer support and encouragement to those students.

Two University of West Alabama engineering technology students recently participated in a 10-week paid internship at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee, the largest U.S. Department of Energy science and energy laboratory. While there, the students worked the laboratory’s specialized areas of scientific discovery, clean energy solutions and security technologies.

The University of West Alabama will honor more than 800 graduates during fall commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 8. The undergraduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Pruitt Gymnasium on the UWA campus. The graduate ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m., also at Pruitt Gymnasium. Presidential Receptions will be held prior to each ceremony and are open to all graduates and their guests at 8 a.m. and noon in the Bell Conference Center.
