Multi-platinum duo Thompson Square to headline UWA Homecoming Concert
Thompson Square to perform chart topping hits “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You” at Homecoming concert
The University of West Alabama’s 2018 Homecoming festivities will include a concert featuring headliners Thompson Square on Thursday, Oct. 25. The concert is open to the public, with general admission and VIP tickets available. The concert will be staged on the quad area between Lyon Hall and Bibb Graves Hall. The concert starts at 8 p.m. with opening act Tana Matz.
Current UWA undergraduate students with a valid student ID will receive a complimentary general admission ticket compliments of the UWA Campus Activities Board. For $10, current UWA students may purchase a VIP ticket upgrade that will allow exclusive access to the front of the stage not accessible to the general public. General admission tickets for the public may be purchased for $15. All tickets, including the complimentary student ticket, can be ordered at cab.uwa.edu.
“We are excited to bring a band of this caliber to our students and the UWA community, ” said Jason Gardner, director of student activities. “Concerts make for a lot of memories from the college years, and we’re excited to add this tradition to Homecoming week.”
Thompson Square, the husband-and-wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, recently released their third studio album, Masterpiece. With romantically charged #1 hits like “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You,” multi-platinum international success, two Grammy nominations, and honors that include ACM and CMA Vocal Duo of the Year Awards, the country duo’s career has been the stuff dreams are made of for artists, and their ambition is growing.
With the release of Masterpiece, Thompson Square is at the top of their game, offering up a fresh batch of poetic and extremely personal country music.
“This album is called Masterpiece, and it’s named after what we consider our masterpiece – our son Cooper,” Keifer explained. “We feel like he’s the best thing we’ve ever made, and he inspired this whole album.”
Opening act Tana Matz is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist from Cincinnati, Ohio. Matz has spent the past few years developing her style and building a repertoire of original music. She has opened for country superstars including Kellie Pickler, Kip Mooore, Cole Swindell, Brett Eldredge, John Rich, Dustin Lynch, and Joe Nichols. Matz brings to the stage a contemporary country sound, with her power ranging from ballads of heartbreak to southern girl anthems.
