The University of West Alabama has announced the schedule for its annual Homecoming celebration, set for Oct. 14.
Homecoming week kicks off with one of the UWA campus’s favorite traditions, the search for the Key to Victory. Clues for the Key to Victory will be released to students beginning Monday, Oct. 9, at 9 a.m. and continuing at noon and 3 p.m. each day until the key is found and turned in at Brock 202. The student who finds the key wins $1,000.
Casino Night will be held Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Bell Conference Center. The annual event brings together students, faculty and staff in an all-for-fun gaming style atmosphere.
On Tuesday, Oct. 10, students will be served Chick-fil-A sandwiches at no cost on a first-come, first-serve basis and “Make it Yourself” stuffed animals in Gilbert Hall Lobby beginning at 5 p.m. Tiger Volleyball fans also have an opportunity to see a match during Homecoming week when UWA faces Lee on Tuesday, Oct.10, at 6 p.m. at Pruitt Gym.
The excitement continues Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the annual Serendipity talent show where students compete for prize money and bragging rights. Serendipity will begin at 7 p.m. in UWA auditorium. The 2023 Homecoming court will also be spotlighted during the event.
On Thursday, Oct. 12, Coach Brett Gilliland, the Tiger football team, the West Alabama Marching Band, UWA cheerleaders and LUie will be on hand for the Homecoming pep rally, bonfire and fireworks show at 7 p.m. at the intramural fields. Following these events, the Campus Activities Board will host a silent DJ party at 8 p.m. at the SUB.
Friday, Oct. 13, kicks off alumni events for Homecoming with the annual alumni party, one of the most anticipated events of the year. Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Affairs, the party begins at 6 p.m. in the Bell Conference Center on campus. Always a great time for friends, food and fun, this year’s party will feature the band Farmer’s Daughter. Admission to the party is $40 and pre-registration is required. purchase tickets
UWA Soccer will also take the field on Friday, Oct.13, against Mississippi College with women’s soccer set for 5:30 p.m. followed by men’s soccer at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, the annual homecoming parade begins at 1 p.m. UWA students and organizations, special guests, and marching bands from across the state will wind through downtown Livingston and back onto campus at Stadium Drive.
Following the parade there will be an alumni tailgate from 2 until 4 p.m. on the hill in front of the Campus School across from the home gate of Tiger Stadium. Alumni are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or quilts to relax and enjoy the gathering.
