Lift Every Voice and Sing Discussion UWA

The University of West Alabama will host Dr. Timothy Askew, professor of English and humanities at Clark Atlanta University, for a virtual event in commemoration of Black History Month. The event is co-sponsored by UWA's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and UWA CARES. There is no cost to participate, and the virtual event is open to the public. 

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program at UWA has earned accreditation by the Alabama Department of Public Health. Garnering top marks, this accreditation helps ensure that licensure courses offered on campus meet the highest standards and provide exceptional training.
The University of West Alabama’s Division of Economic & Workforce Development, in partnership with CO.STARTERS of Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently graduated its first class of REBUILD, an entrepreneurial training class to assist small businesses in recovery, rebuilding and growing their firms.
The University of West Alabama will partner with North Carolina based hands-on learning company Betabox to help implement a workforce development initiative funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor & the Delta Regional Authority. Design and construction of a mobile unit to support a slate of training needs.
The University of West Alabama (UWA) is the first university in the state to be recognized by the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship as a Sponsor for Registered Apprenticeship programs according to a joint announcement from UWA and the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship along with employer partner, Alabama Pellets and Pinnacle Renewable Energy.
The University of West Alabama is extending a helping hand to high school students preparing to take the ACT soon through a series of online help sessions that will be offered at no cost to the student. Three sessions are scheduled already, and more support resources will continue to be added.
A new COVID-19 testing site has been established to serve Sumter County and surrounding communities. The testing site began operations Thursday, April 16, reportedly screening more than 100 and testing 27 who met necessary requirements for receiving the test.
As the world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic with closures and temporary changes in operation, the University of West Alabama’s Black Belt Museum is using what would be downtime to pool resources and address the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) for front line healthcare workers in the region.
The University of West Alabama Student Government Association has joined forces with the other 13 public universities in Alabama and the Higher Education Partnership to host an Alabama Blood Donation Campaign. This organized effort is sponsored in response to the call to action from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.
