For more than 20 years, the University of West Alabama has offered a hands-on learning opportunity for accounting students to prepare individual state and federal income tax returns at no charge to the tax payer through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which receives grant assistance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through ImpactAmerica.

Visual artist Garland Farwell kicked off a year-long artist-residency, Monday, Feb. 19 at the University of West Alabama’s Julia Tutwiler Library, with a folk-art exhibit of hex signs, a uniquely American art form and best-known symbol of the Pennsylvania Dutch, interpreted through an African American, southern and rural lens.

Students eagerly waited in line for the annual Tiger Career Fair to kick off Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the Student Union Building (SUB) at the University of West Alabama. The all degree fair is held each fall. Almost 200 students filed in the SUB over the course of the three-hour fair to speak to potential employers, engage in networking and gain resources from Career Services.

The University of West Alabama has launched a new design for its collegiate license plate available to Alabama residents. The design, which will be available August 1, features red and white University branding, including a sleek and fierce red and white tiger profile. Proceeds from sales of the plate benefit a scholarship program at UWA.
