Description

The University of West Alabama (UWA) seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Soccer Coach to join our athletics staff.  This position will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the women’s soccer program, including recruitment, training, game preparation, and administrative duties.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing student-athletes on and off the field while upholding the values of the University and the athletic department. 

  • Assist in planning and executing daily training sessions and game strategies.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of student-athletes who excel academically and athletically.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and player development in alignment with the team’s philosophy and goals.
  • Analyze team and individual performance through video review and game evaluation.
  • Assist in scheduling games, coordinating travel logistics, and organizing team events.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, Gulf South Conference, and UWA policies and regulations.
  • Support student-athletes in their academic and personal development.
  • Assist with fundraising, community outreach, and promotional activities for the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Previous coaching or playing experience at the high school, collegiate, club, or professional level. 
  • Strong understanding of soccer tactics, strategy, and player development.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, coaching staff, students, and alumni. 

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.                   
  • USSF, UEFA, or NSCAA coaching certifications.
  • Experience with video analysis software (e.g., Hudl, Spiideo).
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division II regulations and recruiting guidelines.
