Description

Under the supervision of the HVAC & Plumbing Supervisor for the University of West Alabama, this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting Maintenance Staff:
    • Replacing/cleaning filters.
    • Greasing motors and bearings, and belt replacement.
    • Installation and repair of PTAC and HVAC equipment, as needed.
    • Installation and repair of household, and both residential and commercial kitchen equipment.  
    • Installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems, and natural gas piping systems.  
    • Maintenance and repair of water heaters.
    • Maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer systems. 
  • Able to effectively manage time and complete work within a reasonable time.  
  • Some overtime, including on-call status, will be required, as needed. 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Periodically performing work outside during all times of the year.
  • Working on ladders, man-lifts, or scaffolding.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Transporting moderately heavy items at times.  
  • Operation of University vehicles.  

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to interact professionally with all members of the University community and the external public. 
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift heavy objects.  
  • Valid Dirver’s License. 
  • Dependable transportation.
