Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Theatre or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of lighting technology, sound systems, manual fly systems, and troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.
  • Understanding of industry-standard safety practices and protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders, and use mechanical lifts.
  • Strong artistic sense, organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Very organized, flexible and adaptable; proactive approach.

Preferred

  • MFA in Design and Technology.
  • Technical Theatre experience.
  • Experience as a technical director for theatre and music productions.
  • A record of effective teaching in higher education.
  • Experience managing students, including scholarship and work study students.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach up to six credit hours per term in the Creative Arts Enterprise major, to include: Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, Theatre History, Dramatics Laboratory, Lighting, Special Topics in Theatre, and other related courses.
  • Design and execute scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and properties on schedule for music, theatre, and art productions; purchase necessary materials, and plan and execute the construction and installation schedule in consultation with the chair and show director for each mainstage show and/or production; attend all rehearsals and productions.
  • Serve as technical director/production manager for on-campus rehearsals and events in academic affairs, including commencement, honors day, shows, productions, and other related activities.
  • Schedule and lead production meetings. Work with the show/event director to create, manage, and maintain production schedules, budgeted and actual costs, with respect to scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and properties.
  • Oversee and promote safety in all activities, including safety with respect to students, faculty and staff, audiences, and patrons.
  • Train and supervise student workers.
  • Participate in department meetings and all other department, division, campus, and college committees as assigned.
  • Create and maintain production calendar for all performances, shows and productions in the Creative Arts Enterprise major; ensure all events are posted/promoted on the appropriate university calendars.
  • Advise and recruit prospective students.
  • Attend conferences as requested.
  • Make strategic decisions with good judgment and an emphasis on innovative/creative problem-solving.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as: Work with the Audio Video Specialist in Information Technology (IT) to coordinate lighting, set, and audio/video needs in campus facilities including the UWA Auditorium, Bridges Auditorium, the UWA Amphitheater, the Bell Conference Center, The Blackbox Theatre, and other related facilities; Maintain the scene/costume shops, storage areas, stage spaces (including the theatrical rigging system), equipment, supplies, and tools for Music, Art, and Theatre.
