The University of West Alabama’s Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning Office seeks a driven and detail-oriented Data Analyst 1 to join our team. In this role, you will support data-driven decision-making by gathering, processing, and analyzing University data to produce insights that drive our mission forward. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or entry-level candidate to gain hands-on experience in a University setting, working on projects that enhance institutional effectiveness and inform strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection & Preparation: Collect, clean, and organize data from multiple University sources, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Conduct analysis using statistical techniques to interpret data, generate insights, and produce regular reports for use in institutional decision-making.
  • Data Visualization: Create data visualizations that clearly communicate trends and insights to various audiences, utilizing tools such as Excel and Power BI.
  • Database Maintenance: Assist in managing data storage and databases, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of key institutional data.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with Institutional Research, Strategic Planning, and other University departments to understand data needs and provide relevant insights.
  • Documentation: Maintain documentation on methods, data sources, and findings to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with data analysis software and languages (Excel, SQL, Python, or R).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to think critically and problem-solve.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly present data and insights to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Teamwork: Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues and learn within a University setting.

Preferred

  • Experience with Visualization Tools: Familiarity with Power BI or Tableau is a plus.
  • Database Knowledge: Basic understanding of SQL and experience working with databases.
  • Project Experience: Prior experience with data analysis projects, internships, or coursework relevant to the role is preferred.
