The University of West Alabama provides a wide range of housing options for incoming freshmen, transfer students, and graduate students, as well as off-campus housing. Gilbert Hall 

All incoming freshmen and certain incoming transfer students are housed in Gilbert Hall, which is named after Robert B. Gilbert, a professor of English who served as a member of the faculty from 1948 until 1975. Dr. Gilbert also served as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Chairman of the Division of Languages and Literature from 1948-1972. Gilbert Hall is a suite-style residence hall for new freshmen and transfer students who have earned less than 24 semester credits. (Gilbert Hall also has a limited number of rooms for sophomores and above.)

Hoover Apartments 

Hoover Apartments is named after Elizabeth Hoover, a professor of history who served as a member of the faculty from 1931 until 1972. Hoover is an apartment community for students who have earned at least 24 semester credits. Each apartment in Phase One has two double bedrooms (shared bedrooms). The apartments in Phase Two consist of four single bedrooms. New transfer students that are applying for housing for the fall semester should apply by March 1. Priority for Hoover is for fully matched groups of four residents.

Patterson Hall 

Patterson Hall is named after Albert L. Patterson, Albert Patterson, father of Governor John Patterson (1959-1963), served as an Alabama state senator from 1947-1951. He served briefly as the Attorney General of Alabama before being assassinated in Phenix City, Alabama, on June 18, 1954. Patterson Hall is a suite-style residence hall for students who have earned at least 24 semester credits. New transfer students that are applying for housing for the fall semester should apply by March 5th. Priority in assignments is based on each student’s cumulative grade point average, credit hours earned and the date that the housing application is submitted.

Reed Hall 

Reed Hall is named after Nathaniel Reed, a professor of English who served as a member of the faculty from 1955 until 1989. In addition to his faculty position, Mr. Reed held several leadership positions throughout his career at UWA. He retired as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Reed Hall is a suite-style residence hall for students who have earned at least 24 semester credits. New transfer students who are applying for housing for the fall semester, should apply by March 5th. Priority in assignments is based on each student’s cumulative grade point average, credit hours earned and date that the housing application is submitted.

Reed Hall Tour 

Selden Hall 

Selden Hall is named after Armistead Selden, Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Western Samoa. Selden served as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1951 to 1952, when he was elected to the United States Congress from 1953 to 1969. Located near Wallace Hall and the Student Union, Selden Hall is a low-cost housing option for students who want to minimize their expenses. While Selden Hall rooms do not have in-suite bathrooms or kitchens, each wing has a community bathroom with private toilet stalls and shower stalls.

Stickney Hall is named after Fred G. Stickney, a professor of English who served as the head of the English department from 1925 until 1946. Stickney Hall is a suite-style residence hall for students who have earned at least 24 semester credits. The majority of the rooms at Stickney Hall are for two people; however, there are a few three-person rooms. In the three-person rooms, there is a separate two-person bedroom and a single bed in the main residence hall room. New transfer students that are applying for housing for the fall semester should apply by March 5th. Priority in assignments is based on each student’s cumulative grade point average, credit hours earned and date that the housing application is submitted.
