Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science

The Public Safety (BA/BS) degree program from the University of West Alabama (UWA) is a unique and flexible educational pathway that caters to individuals with experience in various Public Safety Professions, such as Law Enforcement, Fire Service and EMS. It is designed to build upon the student’s existing expertise by awarding technical credit for their certifications in these areas. This distinctive approach enables students to blend their real-world experience with academic coursework, empowering them to advance in their chosen careers. By offering technical credit for certifications, the program provides greater opportunities for career growth, qualification for State or Federal employment and an enhanced skill set to meet the dynamic demands of the public safety sector.

One of the program’s key strengths lies in its multidisciplinary approach. The Public Safety Comprehensive degree allows students to create a customized and comprehensive academic experience in fields related to public service. Furthermore, the program recognizes the value of professional certifications earned by students during their careers and offers transfer credits toward the degree. Students have the opportunity to tailor their studies further by selecting courses from three areas of concentration, ensuring a well-rounded education in their specific areas of interest. The program offers flexibility by allowing students to take courses on campus or online, catering to the busy and demanding schedules of public safety professionals. Additionally, students can explore secondary areas of emphasis, with options including Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Homeland Security, Management and Computer Science, offering diverse avenues for specialization and expanding their expertise in public safety.
