The University of West Alabama Board of Trustees President pro tempore Justin Smith, in consultation with UWA President Ken Tucker, will appoint an ad hoc committee of the board to review and study the names of all campus buildings and report to the board any recommended changes. The ad hoc advisory committee will seek input from various stakeholder groups associated with the university. The final decisions regarding any recommendations will be made by the full Board of Trustees at an open meeting.

The University is committed to principles of equality, fairness, and justice, and strives to treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Recognizing that changing the names of any campus building is a complex process governed by state law, the university acknowledges the strong emotions involved in the current social discourse, and seeks to conduct a fair, objective, and thorough review.
