Rising 12th graders invited to apply for BOSS II Summer Camp at UWA
Campers will gain insights into biological and environmental sciences
The University of West Alabama is accepting applications for the upcoming UWA BOSS II Summer Camp for rising 12th graders. The deadline to apply is May 15.
Students interested in careers in biological and environmental sciences and medical fields are eligible to apply.
The five-day camp will take place June 5-9 at UWA’s campus in Livingston. There is no application fee. Campers are eligible for a stipend of up to $200 for travel expenses.
At the camp, students will participate in activities centered on biological and environmental sciences, cell and molecular biology and marine biology. Aside from lectures, UWA faculty will assist students in lab sessions, field trips and research projects. Leadership development sessions will be included in the camp curriculum.
UWA’s Biology Opportunities and Scholarships for Success II program, or BOSS II, is an ambitious effort funded through a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant to the university’s Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. BOSS II recipients receive annual scholarships of $8,500 that are renewable for up to four years. When possible, stacking other UWA scholarships could further reduce financial obligations for qualified students and their families.
