Description
- Provide full autonomy athletic training services to 1-2 of the following varsity athletic programs:
- Football
- Baseball
- Men’s & Women’s Basketball
- Men’s & Women’s Rodeo
- Softball
- Volleyball
- Men’s & Women’s Soccer
- Men’s & Women’s Cross Country
- Men’s & Women’s Track and Field
- Men’s & Women’s Tennis
- Cheerleading
- Assist with the CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education) accredited undergraduate and graduate Athletic Training Programs as a teaching assistant.
- Work autonomously with assigned sport(s), but have the ability to collaborate with the certified athletic trainers on staff as desired for input on evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, etc.
- Provide athletic training services to patients from the community and surrounding areas of the UWA Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center to experience a wide variety and large volume of pathology.
- Collaborate directly with team physicians, fellows, and specialists from Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center.
- Provide full autonomy athletic training services to numerous secondary school athletes within our extensive outreach program (potential extra compensation).
- Collaborate with in-house physical therapists/athletic trainers from ATI Physical Therapy.
- Supervise athletic training program students as their clinical preceptor.
Salary & Benefits:
- $30,100 for 10 months, August through May.

- UWA Athletic Training apparel and equipment including, but not limited to, polo shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, rain gear, and necessary AT equipment (most varsity sports will provide some additional clothing).
About the UWA Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center:
The University of West Alabama Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center was established in 1986 to organize and formalize efforts toward improvement of athletic health care in West Alabama. The Center provides athletic training services primarily to UWA athletics and the University faculty, staff, and students. Secondarily, it focuses on providing athletic training services to secondary school athletics and the West Alabama/East Mississippi area. Patients include those with musculoskeletal and orthopedic concerns ranging from pediatrics to the geriatric population. The Center is staffed primarily by eight full-time certified athletic trainers, seven graduate assistant athletic trainers, and approximately thirty athletic training students. Support personnel includes fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons and non-surgical orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, biomechanists, health & physical educators, and others in related areas. Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree (Athletic Training, Health, Physical Education, and/or related area preferred).
- Certification (or eligibility to be certified) by the Board of Certification.
- Ability to serve as a preceptor and clinically supervise undergraduate and graduate athletic training students.
- Ability to work effectively with the administration, faculty, staff, and students within the University.
Preferred
- Athletic training experience in collegiate and high school athletics.
- Two years of post-certification experience.
