Position Description:  Assistant to the Certification Office in the Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education at the University of West Alabama.  Under the direction of the Certification Officer, this person provides assistance in coordinating and administering all activities and duties dealing with the Educator Preparation Program and Educator Certification.

Required

  • A minimum of one year of office experience.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral that will enable the candidate to work effectively with students, faculty, and other administrators and external constituencies.
  • Excellent typing skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills with an emphasis on multi-tasking.
  • Considerable computer experience and knowledge with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Desired

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or two years related coursework.

Responsibilities:

  • Updating records of rules, regulations and State policies for education certification.
  • Assisting in preparing revisions/corrections for the undergraduate catalog relative to the College of Education.
  • Recording certification applications and sending application reminders to students.
  • Writing and disseminating minutes of meetings.
  • Assisting with processing applications for admission to the Educator Preparation Program, internship, and clearing candidates for graduation.
  • Assisting with compiling data and completing reports for various agencies.
  • Performing routine clerical duties.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and direct to the appropriate staff or faculty member.
  • Work closely with the UWA Graduate Office.
  • Work closely with both online and residential student admissions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Certification Officer.
